EU Directive (2015/863) also known as RoHS 3 (Restriction Of Hazardous Substances) came into effect on the 22nd July 2019, and included two significant changes.

1, Four substances were added to the existing list of six restricted substances.

Cadmium (0.01 %)
Lead (0.1 %)
Mercury (0.1 %)
Hexavalent chromium (0.1 %)
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) (0.1 %)
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) (0.1 %)
Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (0.1 %)
Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) (0.1 %)
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) (0.1 %)
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) (0.1 %)

These  phthalates are manufactured chemicals that are added to plastics to  make them flexible and supple. Such substances fall into a class of  chemicals colloquially known as ‘plasticisers’.

2,  The scope of the directive was widened to include all EEE (Electrical  & Electronic Equipment). Previously only certain categories were  specified in the regulations.

Some product categories are excluded, refer to the full document for more information.

All  in scope products must have supporting technical documentation (Details  of which must be retained for 10 years after the first date the product  was placed onto the market), have a declaration of conformity, be  labelled correctly, and display a CE mark (In many cases other  regulations will already require this) .

Responsibility for compliance is shared by the manufacturer or importer placing the EEE on the UK market and the distributor (including retailers). These are known as economic operators.

Specific steps must be taken if a product is discovered or suspected to be non-compliant.

The  need for strong supply chain controls, traceability and record keeping  (especially if the use of "Grey" stock is being considered) has never  been so important, Enventic has increased process controls in all areas  to stay ahead of these changing requirements.
